Write or talk.
Then see the pattern.

An AI journal for people who think too much. Write or talk for five minutes. Your cat reads it back and shows you the feeling underneath, the pattern you keep repeating, and questions worth answering.

No card. Emails only when the beta opens or something important changes.

We are still building. The waitlist gets you into the TestFlight round first.

iPhone first

Five minutes. Then your cat answers in its own voice, and shows the structure underneath.

The problem

Journaling fails when nothing answers back.

“You can describe what happened. Telling why you reacted — or what you actually believed underneath — is a different skill.”
The quiet gap journaling is supposed to close.
  • A blank page feels heavy

You know you should write it down. You also know that staring at a blinking cursor is how you end up not writing anything.

  • Nothing shows you the pattern

One bad week is a week. Twelve entries with the same knot in them is a pattern, and on your own you are the worst possible person to spot it.

  • You're not sure where it goes

Journals are the most private thing you own, and most apps ask for all of it before they tell you anything.

  • Nothing ever answers you

You can keep a journal for years and it never says a word back. The entries pile up, and the one thing that would actually help — someone reading it closely — never happens.

How it works

Five steps, and only the first one takes effort.

  1. 01

    Get it out

Type it, or tap record and just talk. Five minutes before bed counts. Filler words and false starts get cleaned up into readable paragraphs.

  2. 02

    Name your cat

Once, at setup. You give it a name, a look and a voice, and it greets you the same way every time you open the app.

  3. 03

    Your cat replies

It answers in its own voice. Underneath you get a summary, the dominant emotion, the themes, and any pattern it flagged with the sentence that triggered it.

  4. 04

    Answer a question

Two or three reflective questions, and one small next step. Not advice. The question you were avoiding, handed back to you.

  5. 05

    Look back

A weekly review built only from your own entries: what kept recurring, what actually moved, and one thing to look at next week.

What you actually get back

Your cat answers first. Then it shows its work.

Underneath you get the same structure every time, in the language you wrote in, with each flag attached to the line that triggered it.

"Deadline is tomorrow morning. If it slips, the whole month was wasted. I'm going to fail."
Your cat, Mochi
You keep saying the whole month is wasted, but that is one deadline talking, not the month. I was there for all of it. Show me the three things that are already finished, then come to bed.

Analysis

Summary

Alternating between chasing the deadline and predicting total failure.

Emotions

  • anxious
  • self-critical

Thinking pattern

Catastrophizing

"if it slips, the whole month was wasted"

What is being measured is not one deadline, but whether progress still exists tomorrow.

Questions

  • If the deadline moved by one day, what would actually change?
  • What has actually been finished this month, besides what hasn't?

Small step

Write down three things that are already done. Then go to bed.

This example is a composite, not a real person. Crisis screening runs on the same text before any of this is written; see safety.

Features

The first build covers writing, reflection, and looking back.

Make your cat yours

Give it a name, choose how it looks, pick its colour, add an accessory, and set how it talks to you. It is waiting in the same place every time you open the app.

  • Voice journaling that survives a mixed sentence

Record straight from the home screen, a Widget or Shortcuts. Switching languages mid-sentence is fine — it's transcribed, then cleaned into paragraphs instead of one long run-on.

  • Thinking patterns, with receipts

Catastrophizing, all-or-nothing, over-apology. Every flag carries the sentence that triggered it, so you can disagree with it.

  • Ask your journal

Chat across your whole history and get answers that cite the entries they came from. If it isn't in your journal, it says so.

  • Insights over months, not days

Mood trend, emotion mix, recurring themes, streak. Charts that get more useful the longer you keep going.

  • Your cat — name, look, colour, accessories, voice tone
  • Mentor lenses — Stoic, Socratic, CBT, Growth
  • Weekly and monthly review, by email
  • Capture in ten seconds: Widget, Lock Screen, Shortcut
  • Written offline, synced after
  • Locked down — Face ID, hidden in the app switcher
  • Export to Markdown, JSON or PDF

Where it sits

A notebook stores entries. Meowing explains them.

A free notes app that never answers is a notebook. Paid journals exist because answers help. Ours comes from something that is yours.

Never behind the paywall

Crisis screening, the app lock, data export and account deletion stay free on every tier. Those are safety and data-access features, not upsells. A reduced student price is planned, and we would rather add it late and correctly than ship it wrong.

Privacy and safety

Your journal stays yours.

  • We don't train on your writing

Not our models, not our provider's. Your entries are sent for one specific analysis and are not retained for training.

  • Nothing goes to an AI provider without consent

The app tells you exactly what leaves your device and who receives it, and asks first. Under Indonesian data protection law this is not optional.

  • Your voice is deleted right after transcription

Audio is removed once the text exists. If transcription fails, it is kept for no more than 24 hours so the retry can work.

  • Export and delete, from inside the app

Markdown, JSON or PDF, whenever you want. Deleting your account removes your entries, audio and analyses, and you get a confirmation email.

  • Lockable, and invisible when you want it to be

Face ID or passcode, optional auto-lock, and content hidden in the app switcher.

If something is wrong

Every entry and message is screened for signs that you might be in danger. If we think you might be, you don't get an analysis. You get a short, human message and somewhere to go — Indonesian crisis lines first, then the people around you.

Meowing App is not therapy, not a medical device, and does not diagnose anything. It is a journal with something reading along. If you are in immediate danger, please contact local emergency services.

The privacy page has the specifics, including the numbers we show in crisis situations.

Questions

Questions worth asking before you trust us with your journal.

Is this a replacement for therapy?
No, and we won't claim it is. Meowing App is a journal with a reader attached. It cannot diagnose, treat, or replace a mental health professional, and it's built not to sound like one.
What's this about a cat?
Your reflections arrive in the voice of your own cat rather than a neutral assistant. You name it and shape it once, and it greets you the same way every time you open the app. The analysis underneath is unchanged: a summary, the emotions, the patterns it flagged with the sentence that triggered each one, and a small next step.
Why iPhone only?
Because we can do it properly on one platform first. Swift means the app lock, offline writing, Widgets and voice capture behave the way they should. Android and web are not ruled out, just not promised.
Does it work offline?
Writing does. Entries save to your device as you type and sync when you're back. Analysis, voice transcription and anything that needs a model require a connection.
What will it cost?
$5.99 a month, or $49.99 a year with a seven-day trial. There's a free tier that isn't a demo. Prices may vary by App Store storefront.
Will my writing be used to train AI models?
No. Your entries are processed to produce your analysis and are not used to train anything. Audio is deleted right after transcription.
What if I don't want AI at all?
Then don't ask for an analysis. Text journaling is unlimited and unanalysed on both tiers, and export is always available.
Can I get my data out?
Yes — Markdown, JSON or PDF, from inside the app, at any time. You can also delete your account and everything in it without emailing anyone.
When can I use it?
TestFlight first, waitlist first. We'll email the people on the list when the beta opens, and again only if there's something worth saying.
